It is with great sadness that I report the passing of our dear friend, Bea Wilkens. Bea left us on Friday, January 20th. Bea served as chairperson of our Charitable Giving committee. She was much beloved and a fixture at our meetings for many years. She willed be greatly missed.

Our annual UIS Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, December 4th in lieu of our regular meeting. Cost is free for members and $10 for each guest. Please bring a gift in the range of $15 for the gift exchange. Doors open at 6:30 pm, dinner will be served around 7:45 pm. Support San Antonio Church and enjoy a great meal. Carryout orders starting at noon, Dine-in 2 pm until 7 pm. Adults $9, children $4. Dinners include all you care to eat spaghetti with homemade sauce, handmade meatballs, salad, bread, beverages and dessert! Dinners are served in the Church hall at 1950 Queen City Ave., at White Street.
The Sacred Heart Ravioli Dinner is Sunday, October 9th. Dinners begin at noon and end when the food runs out! The dinner is a major fundraiser for the church which helps make our meeting hall affordable. It’s a good meal and a great time where you are sure to meet many old friends. The dinner relies heavily on the efforts of its many volunteers. Please call Marlene at 922-7007 if you are interested in helping.
Fundraiser for Super Luke
As many of you know, member Josie Niemeier’s grandson, Luke Knapke (or Super Luke, as he is known), has been bravely battling is battling neurofibromatosis, a form of pediatric brain cancer.
To help Luke’s family, the Probate Court of Hamilton County is hosting a fundraiser Friday, Sept. 23 from 7 pm – 11 pm at the Green Township Senior Center, 3620 Epley Lane (off Cheviot near the North Bend intersection) in Monfort Heights.
There will be food, soft drinks and beer raffles, split the pot and games of chance. Grand Prize is a 55” Flat Screen TV. Tickets are $20.00 each at the door (Adults only and includes admission and a chance on the TV.) Brad Johansen of WKRC-TV will join us to speak.

I am saddened to pass along the news that longtime UIS member Peppina Ottaviani, mother of Linda Gromen, passed away on Sunday. Her visitation will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home-Elden Good Chapel, 2620 Erie Ave in Hyde Park.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the UIS Family Picnic this past Sunday and special thanks to the cooks, Dave Sabatelli and Earl Einhaus and the setup crew, Phil Sabatelli, Paul Wagner, Sandy Sabatelli and Rose Einhaus.
Since the departure of Fr. Earl Fernandes, Sacred Heart no longer says Mass in Italian, but the church still needs our support. The Italian groups have made the first Sunday of each month as ‘Italian Sunday’ at Sacred Heart Church and ask for your support at the 9:00 a.m. Mass those days.

The UIS Family Picnic Sunday, June 26th at Fernbank Park in Sayler Park.
Festivities start at noon and we have the park until 6:00 PM. We will provide the Italian sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions. Please bring a dish to share and your own drinks. It is a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family, friends and good food.
